چکیده
Abstract Introduction Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects memory, thinking, attention, and emotion or AD. Smelling problems are frequent symptoms of dementia. The aim this study was to evaluate whether it possible predict if someone with anosmia hyposmia has higher risk getting dementia even Methods This retrospective longitudinal study, the data used were part larger research project, Vienna Conversion Dementia Study. 173 participants divided into four groups based on cognitive features such as healthy control (HC), subjective decline (SCD), non-amnestic mild impairment (naMCI), amnestic (aMCI). Olfactory assessment neurocognitive administered. Results We found 30.5% aMCI patients converted AD after an average about two years. corresponding ROC analyses for olfactory testing showed Sniffin’ Sticks revealed significant results regarding conversion AD, whereas Assessment Self-Reported Functioning olfaction-related quality life (ASOF) inventory using Subjective Capability (SOC) subscale, Smell-Related Problems (SRP) Olfaction-Related Quality (ORQ) did not. A logistic regression among test procedures, only enabled relevant prognosis. Including measures in model, VSRT Trail Making Test-B. other predictors not contribute prediction Conclusion Unlike self-reporting functioning, standardized tests may have potential predicting dementia, especially However, lower predictive power than verbal memory attention tests. Implications Diagnostic tools accurately early important. assessment, compared inferior prognosis

The cholinergic deficit in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) remains the cornerstone for the understanding of chemical signal transfer. Hypofunctions of cholinergic systems are significantly involved in the signs and symptoms of senile dementia of the Alzheimer type. Cognitive deficits in AD have been widely associated with dysfunction of the cholinergic system. As a diagnostic marker of AD the activity...
متن کاملFrom heterogeneous patient measurements towards earlier diagnosis in Alzheimers disease
European funded project PredictAD has developed a decision support tool for objective diagnostics of Alzheimer’s disease. The tool compares measurements of a patient to measurements of other persons available in large databases and provides a simple index about the severity of the disease. The project has shown that the tool improves the accuracy of diagnosis and clinicians’ confidence about th...
